Lesley's Short Biography
It is the beauty and wildlife of the Borders that inspires Lesley's work, the landscape, nature, the farms and fields with their animals. Back in the studio, sketches from the field are translated into finished works in her favoured medium, oil on canvas. She enjoys the tactile quality of the medium, moving the paint around the surface and "working it" which is crucial in expressing the often rough textures found in the subject matter. Lesley has been exhibiting around Scotland for over 20 years in some of the most respected galleries in the country and her works can be found in collections throughout the world.
Lesley McLaren was born in Glasgow in 1959. She moved south for her art education to attend Exeter College of Art and graduated with a BA in painting. After living in the south for some time she returned to Scotland, setting up home in the Borders.
